Health Banefits of Manuka Honey
Posted on 10.22.07 by Your Natural Remedies @

I just love eating and having honey in my tea or just on toast. I even like it by the spoonful. Some people do not like this but it is just so beneficial to your health. I love to buy my local honey because the when you buy your local honey you are protecting yourself again illnesses around your area. But there is a honey from New Zealand that is quite popular these days and offers a lot of great health benefits but you do not want to put it in hot beverages because it will lose it effectiveness. Manuka Honey (related to Tea Tree Oil) has a shelf life of 5 years also but be sure to keep it in a dark and cool place. The active and UMF honey is the best for medicinal purposes or getting that overall good health and well being. I have read that 16+ to 18+ is the best but you can get it as high as UMF (Unique Manuka Factor) strength 25+. They are more expensive and may just be too strong but hospitals are using this honey more and more for hospital dressings.

Here are some of the benefits of this type of honey that is only available from New Zealand and these flower that the bees make the honey from are only out 4-6 weeks out of the year.

*Fight off infections topically and internally that modern medicine may not be able to like MRSA Staph infections - the “Superbug”

*Is anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-fungal

*Treats athletes foot, fungal infections, ringworm, toenail fungus, and other skin infections

*Great for clearing up acne, eczema and other skin related problems including sunburn

*Great for your digestion

*Helps clear up mouth and throat problems - strep throat, sore throat, canker sores, mouth ulcers

*Helps sooth and heal wounds and burns

*Helps with a cough - also try lemon for a cough

*Great Anti-oxidant

*Treats and relieves diarrhea and constipation, irritable bowel syndrome

*Helps with eye infections

*Helps clear up dandruff problems as well as making your hair super soft and shiny

*Helps sooth cracked skin

*Great for maintaining a healthy gastrointestinal system

*Gives you a great burst in energy!

*Your skin will look healthier, smoother and softer - great for facial masks to help with anti-aging

As with everything - take in moderation and be sure to consult your doctor if you have other medical conditions and are on medicine currently. Personally, I like it on my toast or just a spoonful a day. Do not give to children under 1 years old.

  1. Health Banefits of Manuka Honey

  2. Manuka honey is indeed a great natural remedy, if it is the proper UMF labelled manuka honey (all of it tastes great, but only some of it naturally has enough of the extra healing properties that have made it well known). It has to have a minium ‘active’ level of 10 to be given a UMF rating, and this can go as high as a UMF 30. Although UMF 30 is very hard to get, as it is just a small proportion of what is naturally produced each year.

It is also possible to get it in sterilised form, or in ready made dressings for external use in wounds, eg as part of the manuka honey range by Comvita.

This is a natural remedy that actually has some proper scientific research to back it up - when referring to the UMF labelled manuka honey. However this does not include helping prevent cancers and heart problems. It is an area being researched, but there is currently no evidence to support that claim.
