There is nothing worse than waking up with that sore throat. If you have a sore throat when you first wake up in the morning then I first suggest that you have a tall glass of a orange juice…sometimes that will actually rid the pain. But if you have a severe sore throat or infection then stay away from this. *Try gargling a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar *Take a tablespoon of honey mixed with a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar every 4 hours *Have a cup of Chamomile Tea *Make a mixture of ginger(1 tablespoon) and warm water and gargle *Try a teaspoon of lemon juice or suck on a lemon *Chew on a garlic clove *Have a Vitamin c and/or Zinc tablet *Drink lots of fluids - water is best *Gargle some horseradish *Have a cup of sage or thyme tea *Drink some fresh onion juice with honey *Gargle apple cider vinegar with salt *Gargle with cayenne pepper and warm water *Have some fresh pineapple juice *Have some honey with a pinch of cinnamon *Gargle a little whiskey….don’t drink it!! *Have some licorice tea *Add a few drops of grapefruit seed extract to warm water and drink *Try gargling good old salt water Filed under: Natural Remedies Comments: None |

Here is a quick tip if you have ear wax. Here is the info and you can decide - but be sure to consult your doctor if you have pre-existing conditions. If you always have ear aches, chronic swimmers ear and infections… then do not try these and see your doctor. THis is just for the occational ear wax problem If you have earwax and want to get rid of it the all natural way then put a few drops of olive oil in the ear with the earwax and then let it drain naturally for 10 to 15 minutes - it should clear out the problem! I tried this on my husband. who is very weary of the things that I do sometimes :) but it worked like a charm! You can also try a few drops of hydrogen peroxide in each ear for around a minute and then let it drain out. This will feel weird but that means that it is working. There is also mineral oil and garlic oil that is said to do the trick also if you the others do not work. You can also try the 1 part vinegar, 1 part water and 2 parts peroxide solution - just a few drops and warm it to body temperature so it will soften the wax. Warm baby oil will also soften up the ear wax in your ear - loosening it up hopefully enough to drain out. Remember never put anything in your ear - you will just push the wax further in creating more problems possibly causing irreversible damage to your inner ear. And this is not just an old 1988 song by the old band Poison…actually there are roses that have no thorns. However, if for some reason you are out in the garden and you prick your arm or leg with a thorn of some sort here is what you can do if you can not take it out out with the tweezers. To draw a thorn out and this also works for splinters try putting either honey, a raw onion or tomato juice on it…it should naturally draw it out of your skin. Or you can put a banana peel or a baking soda compress and leave it on over night on it over night and by the morning it should be out. Be sure to clean the affected area with soap and water. Then put some honey on it for a natural ointment. If an infection or swelling should occur consult your doctor. Filed under: Natural Remedies Comments: None |

I love the summer months but I hate the bugs and as good as bees are I just don’t like to be around them and I do not like to have them sting me. Here are some natural remedies for those horrible bee stings. Don’t forget to wash it with soap and water - you don’t want bacteria to get in there and make sure that the stinger is out - honeybees will lose their stingers after stinging you but wasp, hornets and yellow jackets will not that is why you have to be careful around them because the same bee can sting you several times. *Good old mud - glob it on *Make a paste of my personal favorite - apple cider vinegar and baking soda paste *Put a raw potato on it *Try putting egg yolk on it - it will also make the stinger work out of your skin *Mash up an aspirin and make a paste with it with some water *Put plain vinegar or apple cider vinegar on it *Put a fresh onion on the sting *Chew up some plantain leaves and put it on this sting - this works really well!! *Try spraying windex on it after you take the stinger out - it will reduce the swelling. Just make sure that is contains ammonia and not a concentrated product. The Ammonia is what does the trick! If any allergic reaction occurs or swelling contact your physician and seek medical attention immediately! Filed under: Natural Remedies Comments: None |

When my baby was an infant she had a blocked tear duct. The poor kid always has eye goop comparable to what happen when you get pink eye in her eye. The doctor said if it did not go away by the time she was 1 that they would operate on it…I couldn’t stand the thought of my 1 year old having eye surgery - I could just picture it leading to more problems when she is older. Having a block tear duct makes her eye more susceptible to infections so I did a little research and of course asked my doctor what I could do about it. Here are some things to do if you baby has a blocked tear duct to prevent surgery. There’s not too much but this is what I did: *2-3 times a day massage the inside corner of the eye near the nose. *Keep it clean - when you see it tearing gently wash it off with a damp cloth. *I washed it with a little breastmilk *I have also hears of putting chamomile tea on a damp cloth and washing it off with that. And that is basically it - easy enough. Simple information that prevented eye surgery. I did this for 9 months and it took a long time but it was worth it in the long run. Between the ages of 40-50 most commonly menopause will hit all women! For the lucky some it will last only a few months with mild to no symptoms and for others and most it will hit hard with those hot flashes, night sweats and emotional imbalances. There are of course the hormonal replacement therapies but if you can go the all natural route without take those invasive drugs that seems like the best and probably cheapest way to go…if it works for you. It’s worth a try though just to avoid the discomforts of this life altering event! To reduce or eliminate the symptoms of Hot Flashes here are some tips: *Reduce certain elements in your life - stress, alcohol, coffee, smoking, hot weather or environments, sugar, spicy foods, anger and rage - keep your emotions in check!! *Take some Vitamin E with Vitamin C supplements or simply increase foods high in vitamin E and C in your diet *Exercise daily for at least 30 minutes *Try taking up yoga *Try acupuncture *Wear cotton material pajamas *Drink water and stay hydrated!!! *Have a cup of ginseng or sage tea *Don’t forget to breath - relax and concentrate on breathing *Try some bee pollen - found in capsules form *Increase calcium and soy in your diet *Have some hawthorn berry *Use some basil or thyme for aromatherapy *Take cool showers in the evenings *Have some sarsaparilla *Get off that diet and just eat healthy *Instead of a heating pack/bottle fill it with cold water *Keep ice near your bed *Try some licorice, spearmint or raspberry tea - or better yet iced tea *Add more citrus fruits to your diet *Have a Tylenol before bedtime *Get an air conditioner in your bedroom! *Add more whole grains and beans to your diet *Have some violet or dandelion tea *Increase your phytoestrogens. Some herbs are black cohosh, wild yam, dong quai, and valerian root. This has been said to reduce hot flashes. *Add more soy food products to your diet (Tofu, soybeans….) *Go for a massage to reduce the stress in your life *Add flax seed to your diet *Try 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar every morning *Be sure to consult your doctor before taking herbs though. And personally I would get started early on eating more healthy and even taking some evening primrose in your late 30’s. It’s right around the corner to 40 and time does go by quick!! *Always be sure to consult your doctor if you have a current or pre-existing condition before trying natural remedies. Herbal remedies are just as potent as over the counter medicines so always be sure to ask your doctor about them before trying them and always read the labels for correct dosages. If your baby is drooling like crazy, is fussy and more cranky than usual, and doesn’t want to eat then s/he could be teething!! So, what can you do for a baby who is teething…here are some things that I’ve come across… *Try to rub your baby’s gums with a cool wash cloth *Rub your clean finger against their gums * Give your baby something cool - like a teethers or teething rings. The massaging teething rings are the best. *Try teething biscuits * Rub a little olive oil on their swollen gums *Put a soft damp cloth in the freezer and have your baby suck on it when it is frozen *Get a teething blanket *If the child is OVER a year old you can rub a little honey on their gums *Try a frozen banana - I did this with my oldest and she loved it!!! Also, try it with a frozen carrot *And there are always those over the counter baby teething gels - Although, personally I wouldn’t use them too often. *Try to keep them busy - it’s a tough time but they all seem to get through it!! *Always be sure to consult your doctor if you have a current or pre-existing condition before trying natural remedies. The one thing I don’t like about the summer is that it is tick season and I have so many ticks where I live it is unbelievable. And worse than those disgusting little creatures is that there are quite a bit of deer around here so I’m always being on the lookout for those teeny tiny pesky deer ticks that carry the nasty Lyme Disease. And if I do have a tick on me I watch that spot to make sure it doesn’t turn into that red bulls-eye like shape - a sure sign of the disease along with common ailments such as fever, muscle pain, headache and nausea. *Mountain Mint - it is a natural repellent so instead of spraying poison on yourself crush some mountain mint leaves and make a clear paste with water and rub in on your legs and arms and any other part that is exposed. If you are pregnant do not do this - some mints can cause miscarriage. *Garlic juice is also a natural repellent. I actual have garlic juice spray that every 2 weeks I spray around my child’s play area and it really does seem to do the trick. Although it does have a slight odor - but it fades quickly. *Add more garlic to you dishes or have garlic in capsule form *Licorice - eat more licorice because of it’s antibacterial features *Echinacea - have a cup or 2 of Echinacea tea to treat the infection *Other herbs to treat lyme disease known for anti-bacterial compounds include - thyme, oregano and rosemary. *Always be sure to check for ticks very closely to exposed areas. Deer ticks are considerably smaller than regular ticks. *Always be sure to consult your doctor if you have a current or pre-existing condition before trying natural remedies. Sometimes you just get things you would never think that you would ever get…ringworm being one of them. But it is actually quite common especially among children, or athletes that deal with mats or even if you take a shower at the gym. It is a fungal infection that can be easily treated and cured. Here are some quick remedies and cures for ringworm that I have come across to share with you… *Put a little tea tree oil on the affected area *Put some apple cider vinegar on the area *I have heard of putting bleach on it but I highly do NOT recommend putting bleach on your skin *Over the counter Tinactin and fungicides sometimes do the trick *Make a paste of crushed mustard seeds with apple cider vinegar *Try making a saltwater or Epsom salt compress for the area *Try making a part spinach and part carrot juice compress to the area *Try applying a little peppermint, coconut or lavender oil to the area *Clear nail polish has been said to do the trick in a few days *Try cleaning it wit some hydrogen peroxide *Put some oregano oil on it - great anti-fungal properties *If you have ever seen My Big Fat Greek Wedding you can always try a little Windex to the area :) Ringworm is extremely contagious`so if you spot it I would treat it right away! And also be sure to wash all towels, bed sheets, and clothes to make sure the fungus isn’t lingering around somewhere. Also clean the tub if you have small children that take baths. If you have a baby under 1 or a preexisting condition consult your doctor before trying natural remedies. Remember eczema is very similar in appearance to ringworm so you may just have that - consult your doctor to see which infection you have if you are not sure. Every since I was a little girl I have always had tiny bumps on the back of my arms, and upper thighs. It has always been really annoying and it makes me very self conscious because they are somewhat noticeable and I just don’t have a nice smooth skin others have. But I have found out this affects many people. It is inherited and there is no cure. It is called KERATOSIS PILARIS. My dermatologist has products to help treat this skin problem - but it can get very expensive and I just don’t have that extra cash to spend on myself. KERATOSIS PILARIS looks like you always have goose bumps and it can occur anywhere on your body except the palms of your hands and soles of your feet. It is usually rough and dry skin and sometimes can be red. In any case - no matter what yours may look like - it is just plain annoying. But we are not alone. I just had a baby a couple of months ago during my pregnancy and even now - it is worse than ever!!! The winter months don’t help either because it is worse in the winters dryer months. The summer humidity seems to relieve the skin problem. I have tried everything but I’ve come up with something that seemed to work - at least for me. First of all I loofah everyday in the shower - it helps exfoliate the skin. Then I put 2% salicylic astringent on the problem areas - I use Biore - works for me. Then I put on some moisturizer. I use Palmer’s cocoa and Shea butter mixture. I also every other day dry brush in circular motion the problem areas. It is still there - but it’s getting better. Seems like a lot of work but it really is only 5-10 minutes a day. Be sure to always stay hydrated - drink lots of water Hope this tip helps others!!! *Always be sure to consult your doctor if you have a current or pre-existing condition before trying natural remedies.
